A Meta-Analysis of the Impact of Lifestyle and Gynecologic Oncology Nursing Interventions on the Enhancement of Quality of Life.
Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE · September 1, 2026 · Sun H
TL;DR
A meta-analysis of 13 RCTs found that lifestyle and gynecologic oncology nursing interventions significantly improved quality of life only in women with ovarian cancer (MD 4.28, p=0.03), with no significant benefit detected in endometrial or mixed gynecologic cancer cohorts. Substantial heterogeneity and methodological limitations limit certainty of findings.
Key findings
- Interventions showed statistically significant QoL improvement in ovarian cancer at 6 months but not in endometrial cancer or mixed cancer groups
- Analysis included 13 RCTs with 915 women with gynecologic cancer using pooled mean differences with random-effects modeling
- High heterogeneity (I² up to 74%) and methodological variability across studies limit confidence in the pooled estimates
- Authors recommend larger, standardized trials to confirm findings and clarify optimal intervention approaches for different cancer types
Why this matters at the bedside
Suggests potential benefit of nursing-led interventions for ovarian cancer QoL, but evidence is insufficient to support routine implementation across all gynecologic malignancies without further rigorous study design and standardization.
